Frankenpattern Planning

Holy cow what is this?  Three posts in two days what what?!  If you've missed the previous two, please check out my very first pair of (ginormous) handknit socks, and my (FINALLY!) finished Cardboard Cafe cardigan, the best garment I've ever made.  Haha I've been hit by a creative bug of late, but sadly it's coincided with a lack of any desire to clean, and my sewing room is a disaster, ye gods.

Disaster of a Sewing Room
Whatever, I have Plans.  I need a new spring/fall jacket something bad.  My favourite jacket is disintegrating (literally), and I want a change anyways.  Though I'm having a heck of a time finding what I want.  I like the overall look of Sewaholics Minoru, but I don't want to deal with the fitting issues I know I'm going to have.  And I sort of want to use some of the patterns in my stash - I've bought so many patterns that I haven't used at all of late, and I can't really justify yet another purchase.

But...nothing is quite perfect.  But I like bits and pieces of a couple patterns, and there's details from another pattern I want to add, and other details I'm going to make up and throw in on my own.  I think.  I'm still hashing this out.  I'm pretty excited to get started on this - it's been a while since I've challenged myself with a sewing pattern(or patterns, in this case) and I think it'll be fun.

And just cuz I'm cruel to myself, I'd like to have it done by the time I leave for a trip back to Manitoba next Thursday.  AHAHA!  But come on, I'm unemployed, this should be more than doable!

  1. Since I think Google ate my previous comment, do you mind if I just leave all of my thoughts here? Thanks! :-)

Congratulations on the socks! I don't know if I would have persevered. My first one and a half pairs were a bust, so I never caught the bug. I was really happy to see your finished Cardboard Cafe. My favorite part was the buttons: pretty and special without overwhelming the sweater--a perfect complement. I can't wait to see what details you add to your jacket. Can we get a hint about what flavor it will be? Rugged, sporty, nautically inspired, floral, edgy?

    1. These socks went quick because they're aran weight instead of fingering or whatever. SO QUICK. And I agree about the buttons - so perfect! Although a little too heavy fabric, since they sag a bit. Whatever. I LOVES THEM I DO.

And the jacket? I'm writing a post about it right now. :)

  2. Woohoo! Sounds like fun (also, major impulsive projects are the most fun, in my opinion---as long as you have some time to devote to them. Yay unemployment! ;)

I need a new spring coat, or at least to re-vamp my springy one... >_<

  3. Squee! It's so nice to hear from you so much! I spot some spring inspiration. I am having a last minute autumn bust too. But not blogging about it, that would be far too organised!

    1. Ooo you're probably right about that! Our snow is disappearing quick, and I'm itching to both get outside and revamp my wardrobe. Less so, itching to do some spring cleaning. :P

  4. I LOVE the sweater, I might have to make one too! You might find Minoru needs less adjustment than you think, and I *think* a few people may have made FBA already if you check the sewalong pages. When I sew my second one (lilac water-resistant outer and pink gingham inner) I'm going to do a few changes as well, making sure that I do add the cuffs, and that my fronts line up better. I'll have more room in the new place for piecing, at least!

    1. Eh, I just don't want to deal with doing a toile and everything, when I technically have one done already! Maybe someday, but I'm stoked to try my hand at improvising with what I have. :D

Ooo, I can't wait to see your next Minoru though! And congrats on the new place!!
