The Inexplicable Sock

Hey everyone!  I've been back from my trip down south for a few days now, but between a headcold and general laziness, I've been slow to blog.  The trip was amazing and I got tonnes of compliments on my dress at my cousin's wedding.  I promise there will be a post on it soon!  It turned out too good not to share.

For now though, I thought I'd share my latest project (of many...).

Guess who got bitten by the sock knitting bug?  *sigh*

I swore I wouldn't get into sock knitting.  It's what everyone in the world asks me to knit for them, and I refuse REFUSE to get into it!

But then I ordered a set of sock needles (shorter and thinner double point needles for itty bitty stitches).  And then I dug out one of the many balls of sock yarn I've managed to collect.  And then I tossed them into my suitcase before leaving for Manitoba.

I swear, none of this was done consciously, it just happened.

And wouldn't you know it, but I finished off the other project I brought along and the only thing I had to work on was a sock.

Guess I'm sock knitting.  Maybe.  I mean, I'm sure I'll finish this sock, I'm too curious about the construction to stop now.  Whether or not it'll ever have a mate however, that'll be another thing entirely.

  1. Your sock looks great! What yarn are you using?
You know, I've never been into sock knitting either, though my feet are the only part of me that stays cold year round :). I've done it three times and liked it better with each successive try, but I don't know that I'd ever call myself a sock knitter. I guess I'm a sweater knitter, which is way less convenient. I have decided to be a shawl knitter as soon as my current KALs end.

    1. Heh, I just took my sock to my LYS for a bit of help, because that heel flap is WAY too big! I misunderstood the instructions...

I'm using Patons Kroy Sock FX, which a friend brought up for me when she felt bad that I had no LYS. I have 4 balls of them, so I'm really not concerned if I use too much yarn on each sock. I keep reading about new sock knitters who don't watch their yardage and run out - not something I have to worry about!

I wear warm socks year round, thick wool socks in winter and wool work socks in summer - I have a couple pairs of thin socks for going out and about in canvas shoes in the summer. :) I'm a prime candidate for knitted wool socks, but I've REFUSED to get into it. I'm not really sure what's happening here. Denial, I guess. lol

Ooo can't wait to see what shawl you take on! I knit one once, but it was a gift for my Grandma. There are some stunning patterns out there!
