Happy First Birthday, Things I Make. Plus Rocks!

Wow, that title is not easy to use as a name, eh?  Whatever, I still love it.

Anywho, IT'S MY BLOG'S BIRTHDAY!  Which I just realized this afternoon so I'm a little unprepared.  Give me a few days though, and we'll have a little celebration:

I'M HAVING A (belated) BIRTHDAY GIVEAWAY!

Once I figure out what I'm giving away, that is. :)

*~~*~~*~~*~~*

And for those wondering about yesterday's motivation, I did indeed go for an run this morning, and it was awesome(ly painful - but the good kind?).  In fact, I felt so good afterward, I decided to run the Black Street Steps!

Well, I ran it once.  I'm regretting that decision a bit now, but I was proud to have done it.  I probably ran about 11 of the 12 sets of stairs, having walked half of two of the sections.  Considering how hard it was to walk it when i first arrived here, I'm pleased with how much stronger I am now (which is empowering all on it's own)!

Still, I may not be able to walk tomorrow...

  1. Happy birthday! And congrats on the running and the steps! I am still embarrassed by the memory of trying to take the steps up the Mont in Montreal when I visited my cousin there a few years ago... I had to stop and rest halfway. And that was just WALKING. Ugh. :(

    1. Thanks!

Oh, I think I remember those steps. Nothing like that to make you feel horrible, eh? In my first month in Whitehorse, Darryl first tried to drag my Prairie ass up a mountain, then up these steps after some drinks. Neither panned out well and I was horribly embarrassed both times. :P A year later, we took these steps again, and I just powered up them without any breaks. I didn't think much about it, but Darryl was impressed. I blamed the mine, because the ramp I had to hike was MUCH longer!

  2. Happy Blog Birthday. I have been busy around here, and meant to comment on your garden - it's gorgeous, I'm fond of the natural look in gardens. And you certainly do know how to start projects (referring to your post on the 15 knitting projects on the go...).

  3. Happy blog birthday!! I started cycling last year at 57yrs old...I had a very tough time finding affordable clothing to wear in my generously proportioned size. I have started making some of my own things to wear using Fehr trade and Jalie patterns. Peak fabrics in Calgary has lots of fabric to make these up. I still feel stiff after a really long ride, but it does feel sooo good.

    1. Sorry for the late response!

Thanks!! Woohoo go you on your bike! And good on you, sewing your own gear, that is really awesome. Thanks for the fabric store recommendation - I'll look into them. I wonder if they ship? Anywho, I wish you the best of luck on your cycling and sewing adventures!

  4. It seems like you just started this new blog! I still sometimes type in sewingonpins to get to it. Congrats! On a wonderful year of blogging. You've posted so faithfully and inspired us so much! Did I tell you I'm sewing some shorts (purl bee gym shorts) after the wedding? I think it was in that comment I lost. Anyway, you're one of the big motivators in my very little attempt to hand sew something. I love visiting you here!

    1. I know right? I was surprised when I looked back and saw that it was the 1st anniversary! I definitely feel more at home here, and less guilty if I post about non-sewing topics. :)

Oh yay! I am terrified of sewing things for my lower body, especially things with legs. :P But that's mostly because I've built it up as such a beast in my head that I resist tackling it. Don't listen to my silly irrational fears though, because they're not nearly so bad as I build it up to be, and that pattern looks really good. YOU CAN DO IT! And then maybe I'll be inspired by you to actually tackle leggy bottoms too! ::cackles::
